The holiday season is here—a time for family, friends, and celebrations throughout Manatee County. As we enjoy the lights, gatherings, and excitement of the season, the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office would like to remind everyone to take a few simple steps to stay safe and protect what matters most.
On the Road
Holiday traffic can be hectic, and there are many more visitors in our county. Please remember to slow down, buckle up, and watch for pedestrians and emergency vehicles. Most importantly, never drink and drive. If you plan to celebrate, arrange for a designated driver, use a rideshare service, or consider staying overnight. A little planning can ensure everyone gets home safely—one poor decision can change lives forever.
At Home
Before heading out, make sure to lock up. Whether you’re running errands, visiting family, or going out for the evening, always lock your doors and windows. A quick check before you leave can prevent a costly break-in. If you’re traveling, make your home appear lived-in while you’re away. Set a few lights on timers, ask a trusted neighbor to keep an eye on your property, and double-check that all entrances are secured. Track your deliveries and bring packages inside as soon as possible to help prevent theft by “porch pirates.”
Out Shopping
Keep your purse or wallet close, avoid leaving packages visible in your car, and always lock it up. Stay aware of your surroundings and avoid distractions from your phone or carrying too many bags at once. If something doesn’t feel right at any point—trust your instincts. Whether you are in a parking lot or a store, if a situation appears suspicious, find a safe place and report it to store security or law enforcement.
The men and women of the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office are proud to serve this community and are committed to ensuring a safe and enjoyable holiday season for everyone. By working together, we can make this special time of year both joyful and secure.
