As a veteran, it is not just a long weekend. It is a day to think about people who did not make it home and what their sacrifice was for.
A lot of that comes back to something simple. The ability to live your life and have a place that feels like yours.
Lately, I have spoken with many people who feel stuck. They are working hard, doing the right things, and still feel like owning a home is out of reach. Prices went up fast. Rates changed. For a while, it felt like the door closed.
But things are starting to shift. There are more homes on the market now and more options than we have seen in a while. It is not perfect, but it is opening back up.
Affordable housing really comes down to one question. Can someone who lives and works here afford to live here?
For many people, the answer has been no. That is why starting where you can matters. It might not be perfect, but it is a start.
And a place of your own is still one of the most important things a person can have.
On Memorial Day, that is something worth remembering.
