Mother’s Day rolls around, and suddenly we’re all queens for the day. Flowers, cards, maybe breakfast in bed if no one burns the kitchen down.
And don’t get me wrong, I love it.
But let’s be honest. Most of us are still the ones making the plans, reminding everyone what time brunch is, and cleaning up after our “day off.”
So here’s the real question no one asks:
Who are you… outside of being a mom?
Somewhere between school drop-offs, sports schedules, laundry that never ends, and answering “mom” 47 times in a row, it’s easy to lose yourself a little.
You stop being you and just become… mom.
And while that role is everything, it was never meant to be the only thing.
The version of you who had hobbies, interests, and did things just because you enjoyed them didn’t disappear. She just got pushed to the back.
Maybe you used to read for fun, start random projects, work out because you wanted to, or just sit in silence without someone needing something every two minutes.
She’s still there. She just hasn’t had a turn in a while.
And no, this doesn’t mean you need a full spa day or a week away to “find yourself.”
It can be simple.
Drink your coffee while it’s hot. Take 30 minutes to do something you enjoy without multitasking. Go somewhere on your own and don’t call it running errands. Pick back up something you used to love, even if you’re a little rusty.
It doesn’t have to be impressive. It just has to be yours.
Also, you don’t have to go back to who you were before kids. You’re allowed to be a completely different version now.
This isn’t about going backward. It’s about checking in with who you are today.
So this Mother’s Day, do one small thing that reminds you you’re more than just what everyone needs from you.
You’re still in there.
And she deserves a little attention, too
