June is officially the kickoff to everything we Floridians love most. Longer days, backyard barbecues, pool floats that somehow end up in the neighbor’s yard, and trying to stay cool while pretending the humidity isn’t ruining our hair. And while wine will always have my heart, let’s wine about something a little different this month… sangria! Honestly, if summer had an official drink, sangria might just steal the crown. It’s refreshing, fruity, easy to sip, and perfect for entertaining without turning your kitchen counter into a full-blown cocktail bar. Even those “I don’t really drink wine” people somehow end up holding a second glass after one sip. Funny how that happens. The best part about sangria is that there are no real rules. A little wine, fresh fruit, juice, maybe a splash of something fun, and suddenly you look like you spent hours planning a Pinterest-worthy summer party. Meanwhile, you tossed it together in 10 minutes while your guests were asking where the chips were. For Father’s Day, skip the predictable necktie and create a chilled pitcher for Dad while he’s manning the grill, pretending he’s on a cooking show. A red sangria with oranges, berries, apples, and a splash of bourbon gives it a little “dad-style” attitude. For the beach lovers and poolside loungers, white sangria with peaches, strawberries, pineapple, and a citrus sparkle tastes like summer vacation in a glass. And let’s not forget Flag Day gatherings and neighborhood cookouts. Sangria makes entertaining easy because nobody’s waiting around for a complicated drink order. One pitcher, lots of fruit, plenty of ice, and suddenly everyone’s relaxed, laughing, and telling stories they probably shouldn’t be telling. Personally, I think sangria is less about the recipe and more about the memories made while drinking it. It’s about slowing down long enough to enjoy summer sunsets, family gatherings, good friends, and those simple moments that somehow become the best ones. So this month, whether you’re poolside, beachside, boating, grilling, or simply trying to survive Florida heat with dignity intact, grab a pitcher, fill it with something refreshing, and toast to summertime.
Because life is simply better when we wine about it together.
