As August arrives in North River Ranch, the start of a new school year brings a familiar rhythm to this growing Parrish community. For many families, the morning routine is a little different here. Children can walk, ride bikes or scooters along the community’s paved trails, making their way to school without the usual carpool lines or long bus rides.
North River Ranch spans more than 2,600 acres and was thoughtfully planned with schools as an important part of the community. Students are primarily served by Barbara A. Harvey K-8 School, which operates on two campuses. The primary campus, serving younger students, is just across from a community entrance, while the newer upper campus is located within North River Ranch. The school expanded to a K-8 model for the 2025-26 school year, giving families the convenience of having elementary and middle school in one school community. Older students attend Parrish Community High School, which is close enough for many residents to make the trip by bike in just 5 to 15 minutes, depending on where they live.
The community’s growing network of paved trails, expected to exceed 20 miles when complete, connects neighborhoods with schools, parks, amenity centers and other gathering places. For families, that means children have more opportunities to get where they need to go without getting in the car. A bike ride to school can become part of the daily routine, while the same trails make it easy to head to the pool, playground, pickleball courts or a community event after school.
The area’s educational options are continuing to expand. Construction is currently underway on a new State College of Florida campus nearby, adding another piece to the area’s growing educational landscape and bringing higher education even closer to North River Ranch.
For families considering a home in Parrish, the appeal of North River Ranch goes beyond the schools themselves. Having neighborhoods, schools, recreation and everyday activities connected by trails creates a community where much of family life can happen close to home. As another school year begins, that convenience is one of the things that continues to set North River Ranch apart.
